AECL is a nuclear technology and engineering company that designed and developed the CANDU nuclear power reactor, and a full-service supplier in the business of nuclear power plant life extension, upgrading and refurbishment.
The company also has designed and built the MAPLE reactor (for production of medical isotopes) and the MACSTOR used fuel storage facility, and has recently launched its next-generation CANDU nuclear power plant, the ACR (Advanced CANDU Reactor). AECL supports CANDU stations over the entire plant life cycle with R&D, nuclear services, design engineering, construction management, specialist technology, waste management and decommissioning. AECL is a Crown corporation established by the Government of Canada. Its major research and commercial facilities are located at Chalk River and Mississauga, Ontario. In 2002 the company celebrated its 50-years anniversary. |
